1960s Borge Mogensen teak desk chair for Soborg Mobler of Denmark
Borge Mogensen is famous for his leather sofa and armchair designs which have become Danish Mid-Century classics , but he designed many more items for a number of Danish companies one of which was Soborg Mobler .
This lovely chair still retains its original Soborg label and Danish Furniture Control labels which were used there in the 1960s . We couldn’t find this particular version , but the detailing of the arms and legs are identical to Model 147 which Mogensen designed for Soborg . Model 147 has a wood back rail and doesn’t seem to be quite as generous in seat size as this , but otherwise is the same .
When this came to us it’s original black vinyl upholstery was badly in need of replacement . Our upholsterer has re-upholstered it in a Camira Mainline Flax fabric which although neutral has a nice fleck in it .
We’ve cleaned and oiled the teak . It’s a really strong sturdy comfortable chair with a generous seat .
Max width 66cms , depth 52cms , back ht 77.5cms , arm ht 62.5cms
This chair is a little lower than we’d expect so may have been cut down a little . The seat height is 39cms/41cms
