1960s Greaves and Thomas golden tola hall/console table
It’s labelled for the quality maker Greaves and Thomas of London . We’ve seen plenty of the low lamp tables and coffee tables from the same range , which are both illustrated in their 1966 catalogue we have . This lovely hall/console table isn’t shown in the catalogue , so we don’t think they’ve been made in large numbers , and it is the first one we’ve seen . The 1966 catalogue says that the low tables were available in teak or a mahogany finish , and all the ones we’ve had or seen have been in mahogany . We’ve had a chest of drawers of the same design that was also in this honey colour wood , which to us looks more like a honey coloured tola than teak ! This is why we’ve called it golden tola .
It’s been cleaned and oiled as it had some marks to the top after over 50 years of use , but they all came out easily when it was cleaned .
It’s 117.5cms wide , 69cms high and 45.5cms deep . It could be used as a hall or console table or as a low writing table , all pieces which were rarely bought back in the day .
