1960s A Younger teak Codan dressing table

1960s A Younger teak Codan dressing table designed by John J Herbert MSIA

NOT THE ONE IN THESE PHOTOS BUT ANOTHER THAT WE HAVE JUST BOUGHT FROM THE FAMILY OF THE ORIGINAL OWNERS WHO BOUGHT IT NEW IN 1966 . IT ‘S FROM A FULL SUITE , SO WE ALSO HAVE A WARDROBE , CHEST OF DRAWERS AND CONTINENTAL HEADBOARD .

It will be given a light clean and oil which we find is all that is needed with this model . We’ve sold a lot from this range over the last 5 years and go out of our way to buy it as it’s always beautiful quality .

The Codan range is illustrated in the 1964 A Younger catalogue we have , but was taken out of production in around 1967/8 when they rationalised their various ranges to reduce costs .

A Younger were a premium brand in the 1960s , and their pieces from pre-1968 are always beautifully made , with stylish and costly detailing . Prior to 1968 their pieces were more expensive and better quality than G Plan standard pieces , but their post 1968 ranges were probably on the same level as the much larger G Plan brand .

The mirror on this lovely model is particularly stylish so it would be a shame to remove it and sell it as a desk , as many are today .
