1970s Managing Director’s office suite in teak by Abbess etc Part 1
Abbess were a large British maker of office and school furniture in the 1950s , 60s and 70s , but mainly you see standard smaller pieces . We couldn’t find anything of this scale and anywhere near as stylish as this grouping . It’s been in the same local large factory since it was bought new in the mid 1970s , and has been little used in the last few years .
The cane panels to the large desk group are really unusual and distinctive . The desk and teak filing drawers as well as the office cabinet are all by Abbess whereas the sofa and chair by Eglin Furniture and are of the same era .
All the lockable pieces come with original keys . The wood panelling is not included in the price !
Pieces are in good vintage condition , but there are a few small marks and knocks if you look carefully , but on the whole it is in great condition and would make a great TV or Film set .
The fabric on the sofa and chair will not meet UK Fire Regulations so would need to be re-upholstered if for actual use .
