A Younger Mid 1960’s Codan teak double continental headboard
Designed by the talented John Herbert the Codan bedroom range is lovely quality . It was A Younger’s most successful bedroom range in the 1960’s , but it’s mainly the chests and dressing tables that come up for sale . It has a really nice oiled teak finish which we much prefer to the later Sequence range with a polyurethane finish . A Younger were more expensive than G Plan , Austinsuite , Uniflex etc and were not aiming for the mass market , particularly pre 1968 .
It’s the first time we’ve had one of these stylish headboards with their generously sized open bedside tables attached . It came as part of a full suite which had been in the same family since new in the mid 1960s’s . All it needed was a light clean as it was in lovely vintage condition , but as it’s been in a sunny bedroom the right hand side is more faded than the left side .
It’s designed to take a 4ft 6″ ( 137.5cms ) double bed with room to spare for quilts etc . It’s 249cms long and 83cms high , with 145cm gap for your bed . The bedside tables are 52cms wide , 38cms deep and 58cms high .
