Early 1960s Fyne Ladye Furniture afrormosia dark teak bureau by Richard Hornby
Unlike most 1960s furniture this lovely piece is made from solid wood rather than being veneered . Afrormosia is a dark African teak that unlike normal teak can’t be used as a veneer . It was used by Fyne Ladye Furniture and a couple of other top quality British makers in the early 1960s . We’ve had and sold quite a few of the sideboards in the last few years , but this is the first bureau we’ve had for 6 or 7 years as they don’t come up for sale very often . Richard Hornby designed this and other pieces in the range circa 1960 and it was made into the mid 1960s . The quality of construction is really good and for it’s size its very heavy .
We bought it from the family of the original owners along with a matching sideboard and some other nice pieces . It is in good vintage condition , but does a clean as there are few small marks . The cleaning will be done in the near future and it will then be re-photographed .
