Early 1960s A Younger walnut Kirsch sideboard a John Herbert design
If you’ve been reading our blogs you’ll have seen this lovely sleek design already . If you haven’t seem the blog , then hopefully you’ll find it of interest ! It’s not a model that is seen very often , and it’s the first time we’ve been lucky enough to get one . We’ve only just realised that although we’ve had it for a few months , we hadn’t actually listed it on the website !
It’s walnut veneered instead of the usual teak or rosewood , and has been fully cleaned and re-polished as it was a little faded and tired after over 50 years in it’s original home . It now looks wonderful and is ready to grace any interior .
John Herbert’s designs for A Younger in the late 1950s and early 1960s were ahead of their time in the UK and he deserves to be better known as do a number of British furniture designers of that era . Apart from his name appearing on their catalogues , little is known about him , so if anybody can shed any light on his life and career we’d be interested to know more .
Dimensions: Its 183cms long 74cms high and 46.5 deep .
