Ib Kofod Larsen teak sideboard for G Plan Danish Design range . C 1962 the Danish Design range designed by Ib Kofod Larsen was introduced , and this beautiful design in teak with rosewood faced handles was one of the three sizes that was available . This one at 6ft 6 ” was the medium sized model . We recently sold the shorter and longer versions to a buyer from the Far East .
In the 1963 G Plan Danish catalogue it was priced at £61 10 shillings , which is equivalent to around £1200 today . It was around 20% more expensive than the more common standard ranges at the time , so sold in far fewer numbers . It’s more stylish than the usual G Plan sideboards , and the detailing and finish on the drawers is noticeably better .
We’re asking £575 for it in it’s current fair/good vintage condition , or for £775 cleaned and re-polished .
As with most of these sideboards the G Plan Danish gold impressed mark with Ib Kofod Larsen signature is found on the underside of an internal shelf !
We think they still offer great value in the UK as nothing of this standard of quality of design and manufacture would be available today new in the shops for even half of the £1200 that inflation takes the original price to . Such is the decline of craftsmanship of this quality , and the timbers and veneers available in the UK today .
With this design the drawers are always a little lighter than the rest of the carcase . The contrast between the rosewood finish of the handle will be improved on re-polishing . There are no obvious heat or water marks or bad scratches , just minor signs of wear and use that you have to expect with vintage furniture that’s been used , but not abused ! Often you’ll find that this model has damaged handles and this one has had a repair to the top drawer handle which is shown on one of the photos, which will also be improved if it is restored.
