Large 1960’s Dalescraft extending teak dining table with 6 , 8 or 10 Moller style chairs

Large 1960’s Dalescraft extending teak dining table with 6, 8 or 10 Moller style chairs

We’ve being trying to source one of these extra large tables for over 8 years , and amazingly managed to buy two of them within a couple of weeks ! It starts out as being 167cms x 98.5cms , and then you can add 3 extension leaves of 40cms each taking it to 287cms . It takes 6 comfortably without any leaves , and when fully extended it will take 10 . Unlike most British teak dining tables it has the advantage of having removable legs so it’s easy to move and to store if required .

Malcolm David Walker who ran the quality family firm of Dalescraft was a very capable designer and in the 1960’s specialised in Danish style pieces at British prices . Dalescraft like A Younger were making for a wealthier customer than larger firms like G Plan and McIntosh so their pieces are just more refined and with better detailing . The chairs are the Dalescraft take on a Danish Moller Model 75 . A Younger also made a version that we’ve had before as did a  Danish maker called  Norgaard . We have a blog showing all the different versions on our www.pureimaginations.co.uk website .

We bought this table with 8 chairs ( 6 plus 2 carvers with arms ) from the family of the original owner who bought them new in the mid-1960’s . When the table isn’t extended it works perfectly with a carver at each end and 2 chairs at each side . When extended we think it looks better with 4 chairs on each side as otherwise the legs get in the way . The second identical table only came with 6 chairs all without arms . We do have a set of 4 later versions of the chairs which are very slightly different and have side stretchers between the legs which these don’t . The set of 4 will need re-upholstery as they’re in a worn red fabric , but we can add 2 to this set to make 10 , or add 2 to the other set to make 8 all without arms .

The table and chairs  have been fully cleaned and oiled as they were looking a little tired after over 50 years . All the chair seats are in their original black vinyl upholstery which is in undamaged good vintage condition . All the chairs joints have been checked and re-glued where necessary . We can re-upholster the seats for £15 per chair plus fabric in a customers own choice of material whether it be leather or a brightly coloured wool or whatever .

It’s priced at £2750 with the original 8 chairs including 2 carvers . Just enquire as to price of alternatives !
