Quirky 1960s woven cane peacock chair in lovely vintage condition
There are plenty of cheap versions of these chairs of various ages , but the proper ones like this don’t appear that often , and will rarely be in such good condition . I remember seeing one in Jason King a British TV series dating to around 1970 . Definitely a chair to look at and pose on , rather than for comfort perhaps .
This one came with other early to mid 1960s furniture which we recently bought from a house that was furnished at the time . From what I can see online they seem to have been made in the Far East and brought over to the UK in small numbers . The work that must have been involved will have been massive as there is a lot of intricate detailing . I saw one that was described as being bought by a lady in the mid-1960s in Hong Kong I seem to remember and then shipped back to the UK .
