Scarce G Plan Fresco console / hall table a Victor Wilkins design
The Fresco range was launched in around 1968 , and soon became G Plan’s most popular range . It ended up being their most successful design ever , however very few of these tables turn up for sale today . We’ve had many dozens of the sideboards over the last 8 years and seen hundreds more , but this is the first time we had the chance of buying one of these side tables , and we jumped at the opportunity even though the top was marked and faded when we got it .
This model was in the G Plan 1968 catalogue so was there from the start , but it’s not in the 1974 or 1975 catalogues we have so it obviously wasn’t successful at the time . In the 1960s and 1970s a hall or console table like this was rarely found in British houses , whereas today we’re often asked for them !
Our in-house restorer has cleaned the top and re-finished it with a natural oiled finish . It now looks lovely with no obvious marks or scratches . For a piece that’s around 50 years old it’s in great condition . All G Plan pieces from the 1960s and 70s have really good reliable build quality .
In 1968 this was about 30% of the price of a long Fresco sideboard , today as it’s so rare and in demand it’s priced at about the same price as we would ask for a restored sideboard !
Its 106.5cms ( 3ft 6″ ) wide , 46cms deep ( 18″ ) and 74cms high .
