Scarce Norwegian modular sofa and chair Saga by Gunnar Sorlie c1960

We can only find one other of these modular seating systems with a table currently for sale but ours has an extra individual chair. The system can be set up in various combinations, 3 seat sofa or 2 seats with a table, armchair, chair without arms and separate coffee table.

Gunnar Sorlie ( 1920-1999) apparently designed this stylish system in 1958 although it looks in style to date from the mid 1960’s. All the best design pieces look to be ahead of their time and like this still look modern and stylish today.

The solid teak frames and table have been lightly cleaned and oiled and have come up really well. The cushions have been totally replaced with new foam to current UK Fire Regulation standard and then upholstered in a Romo Linara which is a linen and cotton union fabric. We’ve chosen 4 shades of blue green that compliment each other and look more interesting than just a single shade. They’re simple to re-upholster if you’re looking for something different in the future.

Gunnar Sorlie designed this set for the family company of Sorlie + Sonner of Norway who later became Sorlie Mobelfabrik. Presumably this model known as Saga would be in production until the mid 1960’s.
