Set of 6 A Younger teak late 1960s dining chairs
Illustrated in the A Younger 1968 Sequence catalogue these lovely quality chairs are in great vintage condition. A Younger were a medium sized maker who along with Dalescraft were aimed at a more affluent buyer than firms such as G Plan and McIntosh so their pieces were around 20% more expensive. A Younger had one of the most accomplished British designers in John Herbert who was assisted by Alan Pledge in the mid 1960’s. They produced noticeably different designs to their competitors at the time.
Apparently unlike many Youngers used a specialist dining chair maker to produce their chairs. Chair making was a totally different skill set to cabinet making and as a result some companies were not very good at producing stylish well made chairs. Indeed some well know Danish companies of the time only made dining chairs and others like Moller are mainly known for their chairs.
Good value, well made and stylishly different. Our upholsterer will charge £75 plus VAT to re-upholster all 6 chairs plus the cost of the fabric of your choice.
