Wacky Danish chair Illum Wikkelso for CFC Silkeborg
Illum Wikkelso specialised in designing upholstered furniture in the 1950s and 60s . This has to be his most unusual design . His most successful model was the Capella series for Eillersen which sold in large numbers in the 1960s . This model must date from the early 1970s when styles were changing . Like the Capella it was designed for easily taking apart .
This chair has a typically 1970s black painted frame . We had a set in original dark green a couple of years ago which came with matching tables . That set was sold to a Film Company .
As you’ll see it does need re-upholstery , and our in-house upholsterer will quote for the work and materials on request .
CFChristensen of Silkeborg were a top quality Danish maker , and always marked their pieces with nicely made metal labels in the 1960s and 70s and the ones with Danish Furniture Control markings are usually from the 1960s . They made many pieces designed by Illum Wikkelso as well as by Johannes Andersen , and eventually closed in 2003 , surviving longer than most quality Danish makers .
